Miklós Jancsó
(1921–2014)

Twice awarded the Kossuth Prize and recipient of the Balázs Béla Prize, Miklós Jancsó was one of Hungary’s most celebrated film directors. Between 2000 and 2010 he spent a week at Oliva every year as Chairman of the Jury of the Veszprém Dance Festival. He always stayed in the same room and loved the century-old vaults, the intimate courtyard, the spiral staircase and the ivy-covered walls. Upon arrival he would settle into the garden with a glass of fine red wine, sharing stories with the staff and owners. His warmth, humour and love of good food remain fond memories for all of us.
